JEFF: STRUCTURAL WORK UNDERWAY

The refit of “Jeff” continues with steady, detailed progress. We are now working on repairing the weaker sections of her hull, under controlled conditions.

Her underwater hull has been fully sanded and received primer, forming the base for the protective system that will follow. Inside, the forward section of the bilge has already been cleaned and refinished, with the aft section scheduled to follow soon. Several floor sections have been removed and will be edged before being put back in place.

Work on the potdecks is progressing as well. The original potdecks have been thinned and narrowed to make room for the new sections, which will be fitted over the existing structure. Moulds are currently being made, and the new potdecks will soon be shaped and routed to fit precisely.

Meanwhile, the new steering console is being built. It is a carefully designed piece that will match the character of the boat, both in function and appearance.

Refitting a boat like “Jeff” is not something you rush. Built in 1923 and part of Operation Dynamo during the evacuation of Dunkirk, she is one of the few remaining Little Ships still afloat. Giving her a new future requires patience, precision and respect for her story and we are proud to support that journey.
