| Words from the designer Olivier van Meer At this stage of the build of the “Puffin 42”, we asked designer and founder Olivier van Meer for his personal view on this project. His answers underline what makes every new Puffin more than just the next hull number. What makes this “Puffin” unique, again? “I can say with certainty that there is no sailing yacht designed in the Netherlands where so many developments are incorporated with every next build number as with the Puffin yachts. The same applies here. With every build number, every single part is reviewed again to see if it can be improved. Together with tailoring the yacht fully to the wishes of the client, it once again results in a unique Puffin.” What is the most beautiful detail on this yacht? “We have once again optimised the lines and made the yacht faster, without giving up comfort and seakeeping. I am proud of the result of that combination. It shows that the evolution of the Puffin is always moving, but that she never loses her unmistakable signature.” What are you most proud of with this yacht? “The combination of continuous improvement, the collaboration with the client for whom we guide the build, and the attention from VMG. It almost feels as if the yacht radiates that pleasant harmony herself.” Do you think the tough bare aluminium look could appeal to a new Puffin audience? “Certainly, and that is already happening. Almost all enquiries now start from bare aluminium.” Olivier van Meer |
| Puffin 42 Launching This Week The “Puffin 42” is in the final phase of her build. In the latest photos, most of the protective layers have been removed, revealing her finished surfaces as intended. Each day, the final result becomes more visible. This week she will touch the water for the first time, always one of the most exciting and rewarding moments in a project. Right now, the team is working full speed to complete the last items we want to finish while she is still ashore. After launching, the next step will be rigging. Over the coming weeks, her mast and sails will be added, and we will bring her to life step by step, getting her ready for commissioning, trials and her first miles under sail. The “Puffin 42” is really coming together. The bare aluminium hull forms a strong and honest foundation, combined with a white painted modern superstructure. The integrated bimini and solar arch give the yacht a confident explorer look that fits her character perfectly. A purposeful design, ready for serious use. Inside, the interior is coming together beautifully, with a modern light oak finish that pairs well with the robust aluminium hull structure. Systems, interior elements and finishing details are being completed one by one. Strong, functional components such as the bimini, solar arch and tender arrangement underline the practical and well considered nature of this “Puffin 42”. These details are what make her distinctive. The build is progressing smoothly and we are now close to the final handover phase. Next up are the final installations and checks, followed by her first time under sail. In April, she will be sailing. We will keep you updated as she moves into this next chapter.
